Updated March 25, 2021 to report that Peacock customer-service representatives are now advising Fire TV users to sideload the Peacock app if they want to use the service on those devices.
The app will be available for download on Thursday, June 24.
Updated Jto add a link to our news story reporting that NBCUniversal and Amazon have finally come to an arrangement that will allow Fire TV users to install the Peacock app on their streaming hardware. The setup’s a bit of a hassle, but the app itself works just fine.
The good news for Fire TV users is that a workaround exists: Just sideload the Android TV version of the Peacock app on your Fire TV device instead. Just like with the arrival of HBO Max in late May, NBCUniversal and Amazon are currently locking horns over an array of money-related issues, and it doesn’t sound like they’ll be working it out anytime soon. I’m done with this app.NBC’s Peacock streaming service has just launched, but Amazon Fire TV devices are being left out. I’ve deleted it and added it again and when reading the articles the pop-up ad comes back again and again and again and again. Yet when just reading an article an advertisement pops up and blocks the entire screen and when it’s over I touch the X icon in the upper corner and the ad goes away for a few moments giving time to read just a few lines of the article and then the advertisement pops back up again. I know advertising is what makes the app free, I have no problem watching an advertisement before a video plays (it is annoying however I understand it makes the app free). I added the app back recently, i’m still disappointed, some of the content has gotten better, however, the feature of pop up ads while reading an article has become beyond annoying. I have had the KCRA App for a long time, I deleted it for about 3 months because I felt the content was mostly sensationalized pieces that had nothing to do with our local area. Why do you rely on them for stories? They misinform, give only opinions, and do not even cover true and important stories. It is common knowledge that that are the least trusted, least ethical sham of a news agency. Gone are the days of just reporting the facts - proven true facts that is. Sometimes even one simple adjective reveals the bias.
Too many opinions are expressed in the articles. I can’t watch or read it anymore and most of my family and friends have quit as well. It has been especially blatant in the past year. Reporters should not have a bias and this station clearly does. In the past 2 years I have been turned off by the lack of integrity with the “journalism”. I have watched only KCRA since I was a child. It is like things are not proofread by anyone. There are also a lot of grammatical errors. The least one could do is make sure the entire story is there before posting it. This occurs often and usually in stories that are originally from other sources. I am frustrated with this app because when I am in the middle of reading a story it will abruptly end, even mid sentence.
